Ballyogan Landfill Site
This project comprises a feasibility study for the regeneration and conservation of Ballyogan landfill site. The previous use of the site as a landfill imparts a strong sense of environmental responsibility to the project. The materials chosen for use within the park reflect the site history and create an aesthetic for the park.
The unique landform affords many views out from the site and make the site visible from the surrounding landscape. The views out comprise of mountains and scenery and include the many landmarks which make up the skyline of the area; the obelisk on Killiney Hill, the chimney at Ballycorus the stones at Three Rock Mountain, church spires etc.
These landmarks informed and inspired the intention to create a focal point within the park itself. Sited on the peak at the tallest hill it was proposed to create a distinctive skyline element which would identify the site from external viewpoints. Thus, adding to the tradition of the vertical elements in the landscape of Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown.
