Lackan Windfarm

The proposed development at Lackan is an interesting development of three large wind turbines on the shoreline of Killala Bay. The project was taken from inception by the practice to final planning approval. The project consists of three turbines, 60 metre hub height and 80 metre rotor diameter.

During the planning stage of the project, an appeal to the development was lodged to An Bord Pleanala by An Taisce. This appeal was successfully defended and planning approval was granted in July 2003.

The practice co-ordinated all aspects of the planning for the project, from the initial site appraisal to meterological monitoring and the co-ordination of the environmental impact statement.

An important feature of the success of this project was the selection of appropriate turbines for the site and the careful siting of the turbines on the site to achieve certain visual characteristics.
