Moorefield Park

Moorefield Park is a well-used public open space located at the junction of Moorefield Road and Athgarvan Road in Newbridge. The proposal for the site involved the introduction of new play facilities within the park to enhance its recreational offering for the local community.

Our role on the project was to assist the design team by preparing a detailed Arboricultural Assessment to evaluate the potential impact of the proposed play area on existing trees. A total of 52 trees were surveyed, recorded, and assessed for condition and retention value. The park features several significant veteran Beech trees of high amenity value, along with mature Ash, Norway Maple, Oriental Plane, Horse Chestnut, and Lime.

The assessment identified that the proposed location of the play equipment would have negatively impacted the root systems of the veteran Beech trees. Based on our findings and recommendations, the design was adjusted, and the play area relocated to protect these important trees and preserve the character of the park.

The project highlights the value of early arboricultural input in design development, ensuring that new recreational features can be integrated sensitively within established parkland settings.
