The People’s Park, located in the heart of Athy Co. Kildare, is a much-loved public park estimated to be at least 150 years old in origin, originally laid out around 1860. The park contains a rich diversity of mature and veteran trees of significant cultural and historical value.
Our role on the project was to carry out a comprehensive tree survey and prepare a detailed report with recommendations for the ongoing management of the park’s treescape. A total of 92 trees were tagged, recorded, and assessed for condition and recommended works.
The survey identified many fine heritage specimens and provided valuable information to Kildare County Council to guide future enhancements to the park. This includes the introduction of tree identification signage, tree walks, and an educational tree trail to promote awareness and inclusive play opportunities for all visitors.
Tree management works are ongoing.
